Atenas is a lovely agricultural town set in a mountain at an
altitude of 2,400 ft located 30 minutes west from the San Jose International
Airport. The population is approximately 28,000, of which 700 are expats
comprised of U.S., German and Canadian decent who have decided to make Atenas
their home. The town atmosphere is outstanding with fantastic people and and a
very safe place to live with relatively no major crime.
The town is centered around the Church and Central Park located right in the heart of town. The people of Costa Rica are very religious and are very family oriented.
The Central Park is a place where people come to sit and just enjoy the quiet atmosphere and beauty of the surroundings. This is also the place where community events take place such as the annual parades, and more.
On Fridays there is an open Farmer's Market where one can purchase outstanding fruits and vegetables among many other things at prices that would amaze you.
Atenas offers many other shopping
opportunities for one to purchase all of their day to day needs at very
reasonable prices. In addition, you will find many medical and dental clinics
with excellent care facilities.
A couple of very important notes about Atenas:
In the 1990's it is claimed that National Geographic
Magazine announced Atenas
as having the best climate in the world.
In mid 2010, AARP Magazine voted Atenas as the
3rd best place in
the World to retire
With the recent opening of the new
San Jose - Caldara Highway connecting San Jose to the Pacific coast, Atenas is
now conveniently located less than 30 minutes away from the major medical care
facilities and shopping areas of Escazu and Santa Ana, and about 1 hr to the
Central Pacific Coast beaches. Recently, this facet has become to make it known
that Atenas is getting to be a more logical place in which to live. “Why live
in the city when Atenas is now so close” This will most certainly affect property
values. - What else more could you ask for.
Based on this, I think that you can see that Atenas is a great
place for you to consider for your new home in Costa Rica.
We really enjoy it - Please check it
out...
